< Thus, a baby can get thrush with or without exposure to another infected

Donna,
I have not heard this saliva pooling theory before. Saliva in the mouth is
certainly not the same as blockage of the urinary system! Usually thrush in
infants is put down to an "immature immune system".
I have seen three women with nipple/breast thrush this week who delivered at the
same hospital, and they have said that their baby was given a communal dummy,
alledgedly sterilised between uses. I am very suspicious of these dummies being
the cause of the problem. Hopefully we will less of this as more hospitals
become Baby Friendly.
