Hello to all from steamy Louisiana,

In an effort to promote breastfeeding within the first hour after birth, we
are in the process of developing a class for our labor and delivery nurses.
We have identified some of their barriers and the main one seems to be how to
be compliant with Perinatal Guidelines, which require numerous procedures to
be carried out on baby within the first hour of life (ie: glucose heel stick,
vitamin K, eyedrops, vitals q 15 minutes, etc.) and still leave mother and
baby together, undisturbed for the first hour. Any suggestions, especially
from our Baby Friendly friends, would be very helpful. Also, does anyone have
a suggestion for a good film to show as part of our class, something that
promotes early contact and how to accomplish it?

Thank you,
Judy Welborn, RN, IBCLC
