<<<<<<WEll the docs at JAMA- I believe thats who the news said , published a
study
about walking during labor, saying tht it made no difference in the labor
outcome tht the baby was coming out whether the mom was lying down or
standing. They concluded that walking didn't help or hurt .>>>>
<< While the researchers found that walking did not SHORTEN labor, they also
concluded that walking did NO HARM and that mothers should be allowed to do
so if they wished. Also mentioned was the PREFERENCE of health workers for
mothers to be put in bed (but what does that say about whether the mother
is comfortable there?).
>>
The article, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, states:
"The study grew out of efforts to find a way to cut down on the number of
Caesarean sections at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr
Steven L. Bloom's team randomly assigned 1,067 women to walk during labor or
to stay in bed.
Walking made no difference in the women's risk of C/sections, in the duration
of the labor, in the need for pain medicines or in the babies' health."
