I have a doc fighting me on this and was hoping I could get some additional
opinions. I have not seen the baby in question, BTW, so this is only what mom
is telling me. They have been on Diflucan, and finished their treatment. This
is mom's first baby, and she is still c/o pain at MER, it is a forceful one
though, but she is describing more of a cramping sensation, which I am thinking
just might be her particular MER, baby is 4 weeks old. Baby's tongue is still
white, "about half of it, mostly toward the back" the front is nl. This
whiteness is always there, and can not be gently scraped off or rinsed (not my
suggestion, she tried it herself). Pedi is saying that it is a "milk stain" on
baby's tongue and not yeast. I have never heard of a "milk stain". Mom says
that when they started the Diflucan, baby's tongue was totally white, and it
began to recede, but this is all the farther that it has gotten. They are
having no other symptoms, but mom says baby is very cranky in the evenings
since they have finished the Diflucan (3days ago). We talked about eliminating
dairy and such, and she is going to give it a try.
I am wondering about this milk stain thing. personally, if my baby has a white
tongue, and it remains white for a few hours, she is going to get treated for
thrush. We are still on the Diflucan and if that tongue stays white I am going
to argue until I get another refill. yeast is too much of a pain to fool
around with in my opinion.
