Dear wise ones:
        I was helping a mother in hospital who had one inverted nipple
that did not evert, with pumping or baby, or hand expression.  She was
able to get the other nipple to evert and was learning to latch well on
that side.  We were encouraging her to pump on the inverted side to seeif
it might eventually soften or at least empty a bit and provide EBM.
        Her question to me was: How long should she continue to pump on
the inverted side?  She was getting just drops from that breast, on day 3
(post c-section) and 20 cc from the other breast (when she was too full to
get the baby to latch.)  We discussed that pumping in these early days
would help to elevate her prolactin hormones. If the milk does not empty
from the inverted-nipple breast, would continued pumping lead to serious
engorgement?
        I know she is seeking lactation help after discharge, so
someone will be following her.  This query is for my own better
understanding.
