The MARTEK discussion prompts the following caution. At least one MD I
know who is quite knowledgeable about breastfeeding was approached by this
company to "endorse" their product. He was not interested, but chose to
request information documenting/supporting their claims of the product's
inclusion in formula AND that mothers planning to breastfeed need it as
well.
TO DATE, no such documentation has been provided to him.
Does this tell you all something? Whenever I see the stuff from MARTEK I
am reminded that it is MARKETING information, NOT independently derived
research outcome data!
DO NOT BE MISLED by marketing information. DEMAND to see the documentation
supporting their claims--whether you choose to buy stock in the company or
not!
