Kathleen - you are (of course) right about breast milk not necessarily
being replaced by solids at 4-6 months. Also, in British English at least,
weaning has four different meanings
1. the introduction of solid foods in addition to breast milk
2. the ditto in addition to formula milk
3. the complete cessation of breastfeeding when the baby/toddler/child is
well-established on other foods
4. the complete cessation of breastfeeding when the child replaces the
breast milk he has had with formula
This is sometimes confusing, I think, to mothers.
