Cesarean birth rate=22%
Reason #1=Medical; #2-3=Time/convenience (although I wonder how many of
the medical reasons would not have occurred if induction would not have
created a medical situation requiring surgical intervention.
I am "told" that all women who have had previous cesarean births are
required to have a "trial of labor" before proceeding with surgery. This
is definately not what happens!
No separation at our hospital; mother and baby remain together in the
recovery area; and, have even breastfed on the operating table while mom
is being sutured.
Breastfeeding rates for all biths are 80-84%; no difference between
vaginal & cesarean initiation. My gut feeling is that theearly
termination rate is higher for cesarean (after they have had time to
process the birth and begin to grieve the loss of a normal birth).
Looking forward to seeing what you learn from this!
