PS -- Actually, if you think about it, these barriers apply to many women
regardless of their socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, etc. background . . . at
least here in the US. As a La Leche League Leader and as a WIC Breastfeeding
Coordinator, I encounter the above barriers in the women who come to my
meetings, call me on the phone, or who ask me to visit them in their hospital
rooms or at their home -- whether they are on WIC or not, no matter what their
economic status or ethnic or cultural background.
For those unfamiliar with WIC, it is the Special Supplemental Nutrition
Program for Women, Infants, and Children up to age 5; it is part of the United
States Department of Agriculture's Food and Consumer Services Division.
