I agree with  Margery about the nipple shield.   It seems to be a gentle
way to leave mom alone to enjoy the closeness of breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding at the naked breast is what a baby really wants.
Something (probably a difficult birth & the subsequent interventions)
have disrupted this.   i had a mom who used the nipple shield for months
(didn't want any input from others).   She & her mom were shopping one
day in SF & forgot shield in the car.   Baby got hungry & began to wail.
 Mom offered breast & baby nursed.   End of story.
