We all know and are fervently promoting the benefits of breastmilk. What
would you think about the benefits of breastmilk for an adult who has had
her bowels shredded by the bacteria, clostridium difficile (c. diff)? Is
the macerated adult bowel lining likely to be helped by breastmilk's
ability to foster intestinal development in infants? Would mature milk be
beneficial vs. colostrum and early milk? Would there be any potential
benefits of breastmilk ingestion? (Pam Wiggins--are you out there?)

Ethically, what if that person was a lactation consultant, and just had a
mom tell her that she has over 300 ounces of frozen milk in her freezer?
What concerns would you have as far as the milk itself, as well as any
other questions, especially concerning our standards of practice?

What if that person was me? What would you do? I'd really like to
know...been on a round of vancomycin, and just found out that the results
of a follow up stool sample show that I am still positive (and somewhat
symptomatic) for c.diff. More meds starting tomorrow.

Karen
