Well, I spent 3 hours driving there on Thur., after a few hours of working, &
3 hours driving back on Fri. after my one day at the conference (so I could
work my week end shifts). I attended the session on preemies & learned some
interesting info about leaving a 3.5 naso gastric tube in place for a time
while some babies learn to breastfeed & unrestricted, rather than scheduled,
BF for preemies during kangaroo care. The 3 presenters were very good.
Tom Hale IS in Florida. I attended his session also. He is a great teacher.
His new book was selling like hot cakes! It seems that demerol is not the
best choice in the postnatal period.
Drs Auerbach & Riodan were busy signing copies of their new book. They were
staying very busy. They'll both have writer's cramp by Sunday. I hope my copy
arrives in the mail soon. I wonder if they will send us Lactnetters an e-mail
to place in our copies of their book since we didn't have a chance to get a
personal autograph in Boca?
I ran into our Lactnet mothers in the ladies room. They were very gracious & I
told them that I love Lactnet!!! I even had my own homemade computer Lactnet
sign.
Lots of great exhibits, handouts, info & goodies to purchase. Infact has some
really nice T-shirts & posters. I bought the poster of a baby a breast . . .
"Free hook up with every delivery." I work in a mother-baby unit. Perfect.
Especially now that we are providing some regular lactation services.
Hope I get a chance to attend the entire conference in the near future. Maybe
Scottsdale Arizona next year. Let's see, how much would I have to save each
week for a year . . .
I,m so excited & I only attended one day of the conference!
