This problem is bigger than I am, so I thought I'd put it out to you all. I
am the new program coordinator of lactation services at our hospital. Up
until this time I was a full time L&D nurse for 8 years. I became an LC one
year ago, and a CLE 5 years ago. The new positon meant a promotion for me and
separation from my unit, i.e., my office is now located outside of the L&D
area.
I see inpatients and outpatients. Here is my problem. There are a few nurses
that consistantly make fun of the lactation program or put me down to the new
staff members. This was to be expected, but lately they have taken it a step
further and told PATIENTS that they should not talk to me or ask questions of
me because I was EXTREME. Another incident just occurred, where a new mother
with a crying, hungry unsatified with breastfeeding baby, INSISTED on a
bottle. She did not get one. Night turned to day and the new nurse at change
of shift gave this irate mother a bottle of formula for her baby. The mother
questioned the day nurse as to WHY she was not given this formula sooner and
she was told "The night nurses were afraid of making Loni, the lactation
consultant, mad". Well, this mother hit the roof and said all kinds of things
(understandable). Am I being sabotaged, or what? What is my recourse in this
