Was at a LC meeting today (the hospital based LCs in Boston meet once
monthly to discuss 'issues' - mainly supportive gabbing!!) and one LC
raised something none of us has come across before but we all found
interesting.
She has seen a few (3) Moms who appear to have insufficient glandular
tissue. However, she said the odd thing she noticed in each, was that their
milk did seem to come in in certain sections of the breast but appeared not
to be able to get out via the ducts. They became engorged beneath the arm
for example, and were in a lot of pain, but were not pumping more than 1/2
0z, and their infants were losing weight. Two moms had had other kids and
similar experiences. The breasts felt firm in certain spots but flaccid in
others.
Anyone else come across this? All these moms were well supported re
positioning and pumping; all ended up using supplementer; 2 had had
previous babies with dehydration/poor weight gain babies.
