Short tongue plus recessed chin does not always equal Pierre Robin. This
congenital problem is very obvious and not hard to miss. The baby may simply
have structures out of alignment due to delivery. Was the delivery assisted
with forceps or vacuum extraction or was it a c-sec?
Short tongue may be the result of hyoid bony restriction or restrictions of
hte infa or suprahyoid muscles, or even from a torticollis. Retracted mandible
is usually from compression of the cranial base, unusual intrauterine lie, too
much torsion of the dural membranes during birth or any other abnormal
tensions placed upon the spine either in utero or during the delivery process.
Manipulative therapy done by a DO or CST done by a CranioSacral Therapist may
be all that is required. You might want to check this option out.
