Jeanette and All,
Start with the new AAP Guidelines, if you don't have them a LLL APL
or AAPL should have a copy. The references listed for guideline #7: that
most breastfed infants do not need water, juice and other foods for the
first 6 months are:
Ashraf RN, Jalil F, Aperia A, et al. Additional water is not needed for
healthy breast-fed babies in a hot climate. Acta Paediatr Scand.
1993;82:1007-1011.
Heinigm MJ, Nommsen, LA, Peerson, JM, et al. Intake and growth of
breast-fed and formula-fed infants in relation to the timing of
intorduction of complementary foods: the Darling Study. Acta Paediatr
Scand. 1993;82:999-1006.
Then as Dr. Jack would say, ask the Nutritionist to provide the
references for her postition.
