This is the $64 question isn't it? Most of our docs also don't get too
excited in 1st 24 h either. I have to say that I think part of the answer
is getting babies to breast ASAP and that means no separation until baby
has 1st feed at least. We have noticed a BIG drop in this issue since we
have been working diligently(most of the time!) to get baby to breast in
first hour..even in c/secs. I haven't done an actual chart review but if I
have a report on a "slow starter" I can almost bet that baby didn't get to
breast right away! We also find that baby feeds much more often if kept at
bedside which makes sense. I'm curious to hear what our medical experts
say on this topic....TIA!!!
