Anne,
I recently made the same request on Lactnet and received a few helpful bits
of advice. LLLI's LC Series chapter 18. I also provided the OB with my
issue of JHL from Dec. 1997, it has a great article on yeast with brief
reference to "deep breast pain". "Breastfeeding and Human Lactation" by
Riordan and Auerbach also covers the subject well. If I locate any more
I'll pass it along, would appreciate it if you could do the same. Seems as
though ductal yeast is being seen more lately and docs are understandable
hesitant in the best way to diagnose and treat it. If nothing else, the JHL
article will give your OB/GYN good information on the use of difulcan in
persistant yeast. As I recently pointed out to a doc I work with, the
increased use of antibiotics in obstetrics has (IMHO) set the stage for
more persistant cases of yeast that, when not resolved quickly, are
probably spreading into the ductal system of the breast. Short of
dissecting the breast, what evidence do we have that it exists other than
systemic treatment that works?
