Just trying to reassure a client. What are the current recommendations
for npo before surgery regarding BM. My client is going to NE Med
Ctr/Floating teaching hospital for Tufts. They sent her a guideline
sheet that states feeding protocol prior to surgery dated 1/94 that
states no solids, formula or breastmilk, milk or juice for 6 hrs prior to
arrival. Clear liquids are ok up to 2 hrs before surgery. Clear liquids
are defined as: Water, pedialyte and glucose water. Baby is scheduled
for surgery on Wednesday. Any references would be appreciated. She
showed the anesthesiologist copy form BAB and he poo-poo'ed it! Of
course she can do whatever she wishes with her baby but we'd like to do
some educating in the process. HELLLLLPPPP!!
Warmly, Ilene Fabisch, Brockton, MA
