Dear Lactnetters,

I have been gratified to read the two recent media stories (Christianity
Today and The Wall Street Journal) that have attempted to expose some of
the many problems seen with the Growing Families International (Ezzos)
curricula, most especially Preparation for Parenting and On Becoming
Babywise. It is unfortunate that there are relatively few people in a
position to recognize the breastfeeding and psychological ramifications
as we do, and that this all abounds due to mass ignorance of parents and
HCPs alike.

Please know that your letters of support for the veracity of the articles
are important. I have been following some of the reactions to these
articles on the net, and it is dismaying to see a mother write to fellow
followers that she is angry at the reports, that she does not believe
that the authors have adequately examined and understood the teachings,
and that she is yet also puzzled by her own FTT baby whom she describes
leaving to cry for hours and yet says she does not blame on the
teachings. The victims of these programs are writing glowing
testimonials of support for the curriculum even as they discount their
own problems, blaming themselves!

There are far more of these parents in denial than there are those of us
who truly comprehend what is going on, and so our voices are very
important. Please continue to share your own experiences and reactions
to the editors of these stories---- and Christian LCs especially to
Christianity Today ([log in to unmask]). They both need
to know that all of the problems are real and that the critics are not
just a select, vocal, trouble-making group as the Ezzos have alleged.
