Hi All,

Cartoons, photographs, and written handouts are protected by international
copyright laws, as a person from UNICEF recently pointed out regarding the
photo of the Pakistani twins.

My private business, Bright Future Lactation Resource Centre, negotiated and
obtained permission from the cartoonist to post the "Udderfeeding" cartoon
image on our site because we now carry the t-shirt with that image. (We
purchase the shirts for resale from a supplier who is licensed to use the
cartoon image.) Recently I've received requests from people who want to copy
the "udderfeeding" image to use in newsletters, etc. We cannot give
permission for further use of the cartoon because it is not ours to give!

On another note - some authors encourage downloading and free use of their
work. Others do not. Check each web page (on all sites, not just mine) for
some kind of statement or release before you download materials for further
use. Downloading a piece for your PERSONAL use is usually permitted. That
does not extend to faxing it to others, using it as a handout, etc. unless
the author says it's OK on the exact page you are interested in using. For
example, many pages on my site may be downloaded and used as long as they
are used intact, without changes, and with credit to me as the author - such
as http://www.bflrc.com/bf_mgt.htm. Dr. Jack Newman's pages have similar
statements on them regarding further use of his writings - see
http://www.bflrc.com/jn_arts.htm.
