HI All,
Thank you very much for the prompt responses! Talked to the mom last night
and she is very excited to get this info to her Doc. She and I both know
that he ought to be the one giving her references as to why she should wean
now just to have period, but she really wants to educate him in hopes that
he will not tell another mother the same line of garbage.
Again, thanks for the quick response!! Will let you know what he says.
Oh, and Jack, I agree with you that it is a sad day when an OB doesn't know
about lactation and its effect on the menstrual cycle. Unfortunately, we
have many of those sad days around here... Honestly, tho I am not too
surprised. You gotta think about it in the light that most of these docs
have been around during the age of birth control pills, that make periods so
fine tuned a woman can know exactly when her peiod will start (I knew almost
to the hour...), and ABM/AIM, resulting in no BF for several generations,
making lactational ammenorhea almost non-existant for many years. SO these
docs really don't have a clue as to what is normal until they read studies
done by anthropologists that tell them what things "Used" to be like back
before when women BF for 2+ yrs as a matter of course and didn't have
periods for several years because they were either pregnant, lactating or
both. I do think that these docs should do more research on their own,
however, so that when they do come upon a woman who is not using "high-tech"
methods of brith control and infant feeding they will know that 18 mo
without a period is normal, and a blessing to the woman!
Take care everyone, and I am so glad that there are a few docs out there who
do have the clue! With any luck there will be more and more like you in the
future! :)

my last chance to not have to bother with that monthly irrritation...)
