This certainly is a very good point!  I have often wondered the same thing,
yet . . . how can we approach breastfeeding as being painful?  Did you check
the baby's suck?  The only reason I ask is because I have known mothers who
are very familiar with good positioning and latch-on (being LLLs or NMCs) that
have had extremely sore nipples.  Some of these mothers saw an LC for
evaluation immediately, the LC noticed a "suck" pattern that may have caused
the problem and with some suck training solved the problem.  Others simply let
it go a few days or weeks until the problem went away.  So what happened in
these situations?   Was breastfeeding painful or was it really the baby's
sucking? Hmmm?
