Hi,
I heard a strange story today. A lady told me that she had "had" to
breastfeed, despite not intending to because "her baby was unable to
drink from a bottle". The story is that following the birth of her baby
(full term, normal delivery, perfectly healthy) he seemed unable to suck
from a bottle at all. After 4 days, they were about to use a naso-
gastric tube when a midwife suggested she try breastfeeding instead.
This she did. The baby latched on right away and has never looked back
(4mo now and thriving). She had early problems with milk supply but
seemed quite relaxed about increasing her supply with eating better (she
had been intending to diet immediately following the birth), drinking
more fluids and resting while nursing round the clock. She is the first
person in her family to breastfeed and none of her friends breastfed.

Has anyone heard a story like this before? Was this mother conned? Or is
this a "defect" in babies that could be duplicated :-^ Maybe it's the
next evolutionary phase! :-^
