Hi,

Our Dr. advised us about the potential increased risk for childhood
cancer and the vitamin K shot during our last pregnancy. I took
informed childbirth classes and found out more about this so I could
make a decision.

I thought I would pass this small bit of info along.

There is an article from the Institute of Child Health in Bristol
that I have in my
Bradley® teachers manual.

The article is from August 8, 1992 Volume 305
Jean Golding, Rosemary Greenwood, Karen Birmingham, Martin Mott

Study was done for ³Odds ratios for cancer in the presence of
administration of pethidine or of intramusclular vitamin K.²

Results ³ Children of mothers given pethidine in labour were not at
increased risk of cancer (odds ratio 1-05 , 95% confidence interval
0-7 to 1-5) after allowing for year and hospital of delivery, but
there was a significant association (p=0.002) with intramuscular
vitamin K (odds ratio 1-97, 95% confidence interval 1-3 to 3-0) when
compared with oral vitamin K or no vitamin K. ³ There was no
significant increase in risk when comparing oral vitamin K to no
vitamin K.

I hope I won¹t get into trouble for posting this. If anyone is
interested in a copy of this article you can most likely find it in
your local medical library.
