This is my first post so I will introduce myself. My name is Janet
Vandenberg. I am an RN, BScN and LLL Leader in Newmarket, Ontario.
Just north of Toronto. Since there hasn't been much response to the
post about baby signs in public buildings I decided to respond. There
were two articles in Leaven, the LLLI Leaders publication, that
discussed this issue:

Gordon, Rosemary, "I Saw the Sign" LEAVEN August/Sept 1996 Vol. 32 (4)
p 64
Gordon, Rosemary, We All Saw the Sign! LEAVEN February/March 1997 Vol.
33 (1) p 9

The author complained about the dreaded bottle symbol and was told to
come up with an alternative. The result is a graphic in the first
article of a unisex adult holding a baby. Unisex because they did not
wish to exclude fathers from parenting rooms. The second article
details LLL New Zealand's Baby Care Room Awards. The sign on the door
is important but we should not forget that what is inside the room is
important too. How many so called nursing rooms have we all seen with
change tables and no running water?

IMHO Mothers should not be made to feel that nursing their babies needs
to be done in private but for those mums and babies who need privacy
and/or a quiet place to nurse there is a need for baby care rooms.
Anything that encourages mums to keep nursing is a good thing.
