As far as I know, the only action this drug seems to have is to block
the breakdown of acetaldehyde, which is the first step product of
alcohol metabolism, and the stuff that gives the awful headaches and
vomiting if it builds up. Any alcohol consumption makes acetaldehyde
build up, and the drinker feel SICK, thereby discouraging drinking. I
don't know if acetaldehyde would pass into the milk...
Coincidentally, Flagyl (metronidazole) has the same affect, and is now
classified as compatible with breastfeeding. It was once
contraindicated due to fears about mutagenicity, I don't think anyone
worried about the "disulfiram reaction".
