Hi,
I keep forgetting to post this...hope it helps someone out there. A few years
ago I was hospitalized for a really bad UTI (kidney infec.) Had to be put in
the hospital for a few days on IV antibiotics. My son was 9 months old and
still nursing very frequently (OF COURSE!) When the issue of "what am I going
to do about nursing and sleeping with my baby?" came up, the hospital
admitting nurse said, "honey he's a big boy...now's the perfect time to wean
him". (blood boiling, wishing I had a voodoo doll with which to hurt her with)
I walked right out of the hospital, called my doctor (at 10:30pm) and said
that if I couldn't get a home health care nurse to administer the drugs, I
would just let the infection kill me (was not very rational at this point)..It
was too late at night to call a home nurse, so my doc found a room for me in
the pedi unit...there was a cot for my husband, and baby could stay with me 24
hrs. a day to nurse and co-sleep. The nurses in the unit were wonderful and
extremely supportive...and I recovered quickly...hope this is a possible
solution for women in other hospitals!
