One of my BSC students called today. She's working with a mom whose milk
supply is dropping, and along with everything else, the student recommended
fenugreek. Well, mom went to the health food store where they carry it, and
the Power That Was behind the counter refused to sell it to her, "because it
isn't approved for use as a galactogogue." and then proceeded to sell her
marshmallow root instead.

The student was calling to see if I had literature this mom could give this
guy. I about went up in smoke. Approved by WHOM I might ask? Certainly not
the FDA who doesn't approve or disprove any thing that is considered "herbal"
or "food supplements" or vitamins!!! Since WHEN does some clerk behind the
counter of a health food store get off telling someone they aren't allowed to
buy a particular herb, for crying out loud?

Does everyone in the world think they know what breastfeeding moms should and
shouldn't do EXCEPT lactation consultants???

I'm STEAMED!!!! In case you didn't notice.

ARGHHHHHH!
