Hi Mary,
I am a visiting nurse in a maternal and childhealth program. I had a premie
come home, mom was giving breast milk with fortifier. We were able to get the
baby to finally latch on and the doc wanted her to continue to give the
fortifier with bm in a bottle. Well when I read the package it only added
something like 20 calories per day, 2 calories per package. It just wasn't
worth giving the baby the bottle after we finally got him to the breast. When
I actually explained this to the doc, he agreed to *allow* mom to just
breastfeed.
Read the package, sometimes it just isn't worth it. I also think it is a way
for the formula companies to make money off breastfeeding!
