HI All,
Have a mom who called this eve who says that on each nipple (at the abse)
there appeared a reddish raised area at 2 o'clock on the left nipple and 11
o'clock on the right. THey are a bit scaly sometimes (seems to come and
go), do not itch or hurt in any way. Baby has had a yeasty diaper rash, but
no oral probs. No antibiotics in the last year. Mom did say that in the
shower the other day (just before she noticed these two areas) she tried a
new body wash, and a bit of the soap got on her breasts. Baby is 17 mo old,
eats solids in frequently, and may have eaten something then nursed before
mouth was totally clear of the food.
We think it may be excema, as there just don't seem to be any yeast signs.
Mom says she treated her nipples to one treatment of Gentian Violet (had
been using it on babys bottom) with no positive changes. If this is indeed
excema, what can she use topically, that will not be yucky or harmful for
the baby? Is hydrocortisone OK? The stuff tastes nasty (accidently stuck
my finger in my mouth when I had just put some on a bug bite once...yuck!)
and mom is afraid that baby (who nurses frequently) will decide that BF is
no fun. Any herbal remedies for this?
TIA!
