Dear Lacnet

To add another aspect to the cost of bottle feeding thread: work is
currently being done on the cost to health care services of bottle feeding.
I am going to a study day next week where Mike Woolridge is to speak on
this very topic. The NHS (National Health Service) issued a 'Guidance'
document a year or so ago with an interesting para in it looking at costs
associated with gastroenteritis, and I quote: ' at a cost per in-patient
stay of about £1200, the saving associated with each one per cent increase
in breastfeeding in the average health district is about £4000 - about
£half million in England and Wales.'

The document also speculates on savings made in the costs of treating
juvenile onset diabetes, and on savings made in costs of treating breast
cancer.

Bottle feeding is expensive for everyone!

Heather
