Well the subject line says it all--a friend had a baby at 34 weeks by
emergency c-section. This mom has also been a midwife for several yrs and has
3 other kids. She is doing kangaroo care and breastmilk only. Baby is not
gaining "as is expected" (meaning intrauterine growth rate) and doctor told
husband of mom "I wouldnt let my wife do that" (kangaroo care) and is
constantly telling mom how it is the k. care that is keeping baby from
gaining!!!!! My ire is unrepeatable. She has the references to the Anderson
research...but the mom is afraid the docs are going to take some action
--perhaps legal--to prevent kangaroo care from continuing. The sheer
ignorance and negligence is staggering, I know. I think the fact that mom is
a midwife may be annoying doc, actually. Anyway, any of you experts want to
comment? Mom is getting frustrated--every day she deals with this harassment.
I think supportive statements would be most appreciative.
