I have been working with a mother-to-be and adoptive mom who are sisters.
That is, the mother-to-be (MTB) is having a baby for her sister the adoptive
mom (AM). The MTB is now 36 1/2 weeks and has been on bed rest or semi-bed
rest since she was 28 weeks!! The AM started pumping 2x/day using the M****
C****** and has increased to 4x/day in the last 3 weeks. They are both very
interested in breastfeeding and both realize that the most important thing is
the bonding process. At birth, the MTB plans to pump her breasts for as long
as possible so that her sister can supplement with EBM while using the SNS to
see if the AM can bring in a milk supply.
The AM is currently taking her own regimen of herbs to bring in and/or
increase her supply with no avail. She is taking fenugreek caps 2/3x/day, I
have no idea how this combination can work or work against her milk supply.
Any ideas?
The question that I also have is that the AM has undergone a variety of
treatments for infertily which produced angina and . This treatments
involved using and among others. For this reason she is afraid of taking
other medications such as to help increase her milk supply. My question: is
there any reason why this mom should not use? Are there any other
recommendations? I do believe she needs to increase her pumping to 6-8x/day
eventhough she says she does not have time.
