The hosp administration says I must have workmans' comp ins in order to
come in.
I have inquired and cannot get workman's comp as an independent
contractor.

This is insane. If you are an independent contractor and the sole
"employee" you are responsible for your own health care coverage. You pay
the bill wether you have insurance or not. The hospital should be satisfied
if you have a lawyer draft a notice that you sign that you are self insured
for workman's comp. If you already have health insurance it would be
utterly stupid and redundant and expensive for you to purchase workman's
comp insurance on just yourself too.

The hospital is only trying to cover their butts and trying avoid having to
pay any of your medical bills if you are injured while working on their
property. Say for example if you slipped in the hallway and broke a bone.

The inconsistency is that I am sure some of the doctors are independent of
the hospital (not employees of the hospital but doing their work in the
building) and I am sure that the hospital doesn't make them prove that they
have workman's comp insurance. Do some of the attorneys on Lactnet have a
comment?
