Hi Jay,
I don't think I will be the only one to suggest this, but this story shouts
food intolerance (namely cow's milk protein intolerance) to me. I have seen
breastfed babies eating heaps, wetting heaps, pooing heaps and not putting
on weight (even losing weight). The intestine is so damaged by the reaction
to offending protein that it cannot absorb nutrients normally.
If this was happening now, I would definitely suggest that mum 'clean up'
her diet (and she would probably feel better too) and keep breastfeeding.
You were probably lucky that you didn't develop sensitivity to soy protein
as well!
