Dear Lacnet
No, soy formula is not banned in the UK, in fact it is quite heavily
advertised in the professional journals. A few years ago bf mothers who
wanted to give bottles were often told by their professional advisers to
give soy formula instead of the other stuff because 'it's less likely to
cause allergy' (ha!). Now this doesn't happen so much - or at least I
haven't come acoss it recently - so it seems there is much less 'casual'
purchase of it. Mothers get soy formula prescribed ( ie free - prescription
meds are free in the UK to children under 16 and to pregnant and new
mothers) if the doc diagnoses the baby as cow's milk intolerant.
