Jan,
The healthy food store guy is a nit wit and dangerous to lactating
women!!!!
This is what Susun Weed's "Wise Women Herbal for the Childbearing Years"
has to say
about the use of marshmallow root for lactating women.
The Root is recommended as a remedy for __OVER SUPPLY OF MILK__,
plugged ducts, mastitis.
Soak breast in slippery and slimy Marshmallow Root. Delightfully soothes
tender tissues, opens clogged ducts ,powerfully draws out infection, and
diminishes the pain of engorged , inflamed breasts.

One of my BSC students called today. She's working with a mom whose
milk
supply is dropping, and along with everything else, the student
recommended
fenugreek. Well, mom went to the health food store where they carry it,
and
the Power That Was behind the counter refused to sell it to her,
"because it
isn't approved for use as a galactogogue." and then proceeded to sell
her
marshmallow root instead.
