Jeannette,
See Supplement to Volume 67, 1989 of the Bulletin of the WHO, Infant Feeding,
the Physiological Basis, edited by James Akre - Page 14, Chapter 1, first
para.
Almroth, S. Water requirements of breast-fed infants in a hot climate. Am.
J. clin, nutr., 31: 1154-1157 (1978)
Goldberg. N.M. & Adams, E. Supplementary water for breast-fed babies in a hot
and dry climate - not really a necessity. Arch. dis. child., 58: 73-74
(1983)
Auerback, K.G. & Gartner, L.M. Breast-feeding and human milk: their
association with jaundice in the neonate. Clin. perinatol., 14: 89-107 (1987)
The hypenation of the words in above refs are not mine!
I also seem to remember seeing study that states human babies are *NOT*
designed to take water, that it overloads their kidneys.
There seems to be a gaping gap in training of Nutritionists, just *amazed*
that the Supplement to Volume 67, 1989, of Bulletin of the WHO is not required
reading!
kind regards,
Helen Woodman, National Childbirth Trust Breastfeeding Counsellor. UK
