I have spoken to my supervisor about getting rid of formula and gift
packs in the small rural hospital where we work. She says that even if I
could convince Ob/Peds to get rid of them , that the rest of the hosp
would fight it because the ER and Med/Surg unit also gets "free formula"
for their patients. So I asked her about not giving the bags to the bf
moms , and just to the formula moms , her rebuttal was that the breast
feeding moms feelings would be hurt because they didnt get a free gift
too. In addition to the formula bags we also give every mom a nice
canvas tote bag with our hospitals name on it and 3 gift packs from
various places that contain such items as baby lotion, soap , Tylenol,
wipes and diaper samples. I REALLY want to get rid of these "meconium
bags" ;-) Any ideas, or tips on how you have done it in your hospital
would be most appreciated.
I have several articles about how the bags are bad for moms to receive,
but in the hospital it comes down to dollars.......aaarughhhhh.....
