This is a copy of the email I sent to Anna:
Hi Anna--
No WIC equivalent in Canada. Health Canada (federal health department) has a
fairly new program called
the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program with a very strong breastfeeding
component and which doesn't allow giving out formula (thank goodness). The
purpose of these projects is to reduce the incidence of low birthweight
babies, but in reality encompass a lot more. It's a fantastic program, IMO.
I'm the coordinator for the project in the Peace Health Region. These
projects are found across Canada, but are in no way universal.
