Dear Lactnetters - I am in need of a collective consult. I received a
phone call from a mother who lives in an isolated part of Israel. She is
breastfeeding her three month old second child and up to now has been
enjoying a trouble free nursing experience. For the last few days she
has been feeling fluish, with a low grade temp (37.8C) and achy bones.
Today breastfeeding becaome painful on one side and she noticed a
reddened circle around one nipple......no nipple injury, no engorgement,
no lumps or bumps. Nothing has changed in her life. The baby is a bit
sleepy today but otherwise fine. She will not have access to a doctor
until Sunday and she doesn't have confidence in his breastfeeding
knowledge. Does anyone have any ideas? Grateful to have you all there,
Toby (Haifa, Israel)
