Diane,
I may be very, very wrong but I think this is an old wives tale, yes there
must be a certain amount of variation in breast 'Storage Capacity' but... I
have always thought that large breasts are large because they are made up of
more fatty tissue, the glandular innards are not much different from the
littlelies.....like mine - and they are just as capable of making the same
amount of milk as the bigguns can. I also thought that engorgement is not the
breasts 'Filling Up' only with milk but that they are also being flushed with
extra blood supply and prolactin - venous congestion.
I can understand that engorged larger breasts would be a bit more of a handful
to cope with but boobs of any size when engorged can feel like volcanoes about
to erupt, won't fit into any bra owned and you wish you could have a fire
guard fitted to your front with a sign that says to friends and family (except
baby) 'Don't touch or come near me'. :D)
My guess to your question is - no. Unless anyone else believes otherwise?
Kindest regards, Helen M. Woodman, National Childbirth Trust Breastfeeding
Counsellor, UK.
