Jay asked where to get journal articles....
well, here's a start..
in most cases you can get the article abstracts (and search for anything
you may find interesting) through Medline. www.nlm.nih.gov. there
is a search screen where you can type in key words, author names, etc.
Now, to get the actual articles there are a few avenues. I use a medical
library that we have in my office building, lots of hospitals have
medical libraries too (especially teaching hospitals). Many of them
are open to the public during specific hours. Any university with
a medical program will also carry medical journals. There is usually
acharge to copy the articles, but in most places I have been the cost
is minimal.
Many journals are now on-line as well. Here's a good URL with lots
of links to the journals: www.uib.no/isf/guide/journal.htm. You can
also find some journals through the associations which publish them,
like the journal Pediatrics is published by the AAP (www.aap.org).
And if the article is sponsored by a government entity, you are
likely to be able to use them to get info. I have had a ton of luck
by getting things directly from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau.
they have sent me boxes worth of studies, conference proceedings, etc.
Good luck on your hunt!
