According to the bronze plaque on my Margaret Mead Award (for my book
Dancing Skeletons), Margaret Mead *died* in 1978.  So it is pretty amazing
that she had an opinion about HIV and AIDS in 1988.

1978 was many years before ANYONE was talking about HIV.  They didn't even
begin testing the US blood supply for HIV until mid-1985.  Perhaps Edith
White could clarify what she meant?
