At our last LLL meeting we encountered a new (to us) problem. Maybe some of
you have comments or information that might help this mom in dealing with her
son's ped.

The baby was always large. Since the mom's first child did not bf, she was so
happy the second time when everything worked so well. She is bf on demand,
co-sleeping and gives the boy meals. Since moving to Reno when her son was
about 15 mo, her new ped has been worried about the boy's size and and has
told her to stop bf if possible especially at night. The mom attends LLL
meetings for support. After a well check at two years, the doctor ordered
blood tests on the boy's growth hormone levels. They were slightly elevated
but not abnormal. The doc is now suggesting no hind milk since mom doesn't
seem to want to wean. The boy is 40 pounds and 99% in height. He looks like
a football player not the Pilsbury Dough-Boy. He is active, happy, healthy
and developmentally normal.

Some other background info--mom bf about every 4 hours (6 X's a day), watches
out for unhealthy snacks, keeps him busy as much as possible such as playing
with 5 year old sister and other friends, I never seen her nurse at LLL
meetings so I don't believe she is using nursing (or food) as a crutch for
every problem. (I've been accused of this--but then my kids are thin).

We can't think of a reason she should wean but don't want to miss a medical
problem should there be one. Actually its kind of amusing, since another one
of our moms is repeatedly told by WIC to wean her 2 year old because she is
too small (but very healthy).

Any ideas?
