I would like to suggest that if babies are fed formula, without added
iron (still 3mg/L), and are started on iron containing foods at about 4
months of age, they do *not* need iron enriched formula.
The *need* for iron enriched formula creates a *need* for formula to 9
months or a year. This is pure formula company hype, and as I mentioned
before, it is unfortunate that many well meaning (and breastfeeding
supportive) pediatricians have fallen for this. Furthermore, I would
emphasize that what *may be* true in the US, is not necessarily true in
the rest of the world. Remember, Lactnet is international.
