Hi all,
        I've been no-mail for a long time -- I miss you all. I have a
question I know you'll have answers for. I've recently had two discussions
with people about the effects of reglan/metaclopramide and milk production.
I need some more knowledgeable answers! I'd love a history of the drug and
the testing done on it with regard to how it's come to be used for low milk
supply...
Correct any errors please, but I understood reglan to have begun
it's existence as an antipsychotic medication that was then discovered to
have properties that helped relieve gastrointestinal problems, such as GURD
(the dreaded reflux...). I myself was on reglan in 1989 for this reason...
Now why is it used for milk supply? Because it increases prolactin
levels regardless of lactation status? or because of it's relaxing effect on
muscles allows for easier letdown, which then encourages more milk to be
emptied which in turn increases prolactin levels? or both?
Please respond both to the open forum and to me by cc mail as I'm
still no-mail ---
Thanks so much!!
Anne Robb
