<<Breast compression is a technique for keeping up the milk flow once
the milk flow has slowed down.>>

With early postpartum moms and babies, for the too lazy feeder or the
impatient infant who get too quickly frustrated during those first few sucks
after latch, I find that teaching the mom gentle massage and breast
compression also very useful to facilitate the *start* of colostrum flowing, a
jump start or quicker reward. I encourage these techniques only as needed.
I've noticed that, for those babies, if the baby gets that quicker reward he
is more likely to keep up the good effort, instead of coming off to sleep or
cry. The mom is very likely to notice this and make a comment of happy relief
about how much better the baby is nursing.
