My first posting to lactnet...I'm so proud.
I got a call from a mom of a 4-mo-old who is on a very strict diet after being
told that her baby is allergic to dairy, soy, citrus, and chocolate. this
poor baby has had several very invasive tests by gastro-enterologists and
allergists, etc. The mom is about to stop bfing because she's stressed about
her diet and her baby's health. this baby also was diagnosed with reflux and
is on medication. The mom says her baby got better (no more excessive poop,
gas, tummy upset) when she took the offending foods out of her diet.
suspiciously, the baby began the reflux meds at exactly the same time! Am I
correct to assume that the control of the reflux probably caused the cure?
Not the removal of the foods? Can a bfing baby really be allergic to all
those things via the mom's milk? It didn't make since to me.
I suggested to the mom that she try a small amount the the foods she missed
the most and watch her baby closely. Am I setting her up for more problems??
Thank you all...
